Around Place Saint-Pierre
In the heart of old Bordeaux, Place Saint-Pierre and the small Rue du Parlement Saint-Pierre form one of the liveliest spots in town. Terraces lined up side by side, a tapas bar and neo-bistros: you pick a table on instinct and rebuild the world over a glass of white or a Graves rosé. Right next door, Place Fernand-Lafargue plays the second round, more musical and often running late.
From the Palais to Saint-Michel
Place du Palais, framed by Porte Cailhau, is a classic first-drink stop, halfway between the quays and Place de la Bourse. For a more bohemian mood, head to the Saint-Michel district: the basilica watches over a Sunday morning market, and world-food restaurants line the streets, perfect for a quiet, change-of-scene dinner.
Darwin, the other bank that never sleeps
On the right bank, the Darwin eco-district, set in former army barracks, cultivates an artsy, activist spirit: a skatepark, street art, organic canteens and electro nights. Come for a local burger, a beer from the brewery next door, a concert. On Lyad, people from Bordeaux share their favourite night spots; it is up to you to choose who you will push the door of a wine bar with.
